If I have roles longer than 255, can that be modified to add more or is there a specific reason you capped that?
Also, does HTML / bbcode / whatever work in that? Maybe it's not meant to have the full role what with the brief description thing, but doesn't hurt to ask.
are you really going to need more than 255 chars to describe what the role does?

Not if it's just a description, I suppose. If it's the actual role and I was just C&Ping my role PM, yes. I'm not a fan of some of emp's descriptions to adhere to the limit though. I think it can add more confusion.
IE:
Strongman - `Killing Role that cannot be stopped` might need to be more specific in that it can go through doctor, roleblocker, etc, but still won't work if the player is commuted, etc, hence it can be stopped, but does 255 allow you to be specific enough with it? Maybe in this case. Not sure if it allows for it in all cases.
I guess I would personally be more descriptive then what was used in these examples as I think there are a few that don't actually help anyone understand anything, especially if they're new to FM.
the description length can be longer. that's not a problem. I just wasn't sure if it needed to be that long. just trying to save space in the database table.
I'm not sure if needs to be longer - was just curious. I wouldn't change anything for the time being unless someone needs it. Fax's roles (for example) got pretty complicated so I could it being an issue @ some point, but maybe not. Cool feature though.
I'll probably try to go back through and get a bit more descriptive for most of those for what it's worth. I was just testing some stuff, seeing how it worked and giving Champ feedback.
I think 255 chars will work though. For some of the more complicated roles there might just need to be follow up from the Game Host. Having a paragraph as a description for those can get kind of cluttered.

I figured as much (that it was just a test and quickly done) so no offense meant in any capacity. Was mostly curious as to the reason for the limit (Chris mentioned to save space in the database table which makes sense) just in case some roles got overly complex. I think I get overly descriptive when I personally throw roles together anyway so probably just overthinking it and as you said, 255 should be fine for the majority.

Once I finalize the FM Admin tools I'll look to try and implement some tools for the players to use during the games. Stuff like vote/post tracking.

Being able to see all posts by a specific player would be perfect
Update:
If you're a FM player and alive you can now submit your votes on the FM players table at the bottom of the page. It will keep track of who's voted for who, and you can always change your vote at any time during the current FM day. Once the next day starts the votes are reset.
On top of that, you can now see a running # of posts that a player has made during the whole FM game. This will be a good way to keep track of who's participating and who's lurking. Post counts get reset every game.
All of these things can be adjusted in the FM Admin page. You will create roles, randomize roles to a player, lock the forum, lock the game, enter a FM game name, and click "Start Game". It will generate a FM Game and automatically send out a PM to every registered player with their role and description. At the end of a game, the host can click "End Game" to reset everything so set up a new game.
It should be pretty self sustaining but I assume there will be some bugs to work out. If you run into any issues let me know.
