OP
Another USL season is underway with matches to begin this Sunday, Nov. 11.
While it was initially thought that six squads would make up the competition for season 16, a seventh squad emerged just before the deadline.
While the top contending squad this season is undeniably Fwaming Dwagons, the number two, three and four squads are up for debate. Stiletto Nails, Snakes and No Stones all bring a number of players with longstanding skill and the ability to execute. For these three teams, it may easily come down to whether or not they have their best players showing up for the matches that matter.
If there would be a team to take down Fwaming Dwagons this season, it would be one of these three teams.
Mean Girls should not be underestimated as they continue to improve and never shy away from squad battling the top squads in the league. This squad is arguably the underdog everyone loves.
Rounding out the squads are send noobs and One Kiss At The Redlight. Send noobs will look to their veteran players for leadership this season as they will undoubtedly face tough competition.
One Kiss At The Redlight, formed literally days ago, has one advantage: people are not expecting much of this squad. Will they even have enough to show up for matches? Only time will tell.
Fwaming Dwagons is unquestionably the best squad going into the new season.
Made up of several of the league’s arguably top players, Fwaming Dwagons will be a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield.
The squad, however, is not without controversy. Many players have accused the squad of stacking, creating an unfair advantage for themselves, rather than spreading the talent around to other squads.
Members of Fwaming Dwagons, however, have contended that it's not a matter of stacking but simply wanting to play with friends.
It's also been argued that nearly every single person in the league has been playing for years and has each had the opportunity to improve over time. Fwaming Dwagons' top player, Champion, has gone as far as creating a list of tips for players in the league.
Nevertheless, the disdain for this squad amongst other squads has led to an alliance in which several squads have agreed to not even squad battle Fwaming Dwagons.
The alliance, if nothing else, has created more contempt among the league in general. Simple trash talking seems to quickly escalate to personal insults being slung at one another.
Drama has always plagued USL and this alliance is a testimony to that. It has done nothing but solidify a feeling of deep-seated scorn among some of the league's players.
However, one can't deny that this controversy makes for a feeling of excitement as another season is on the horizon.
The people with the most contempt for each other in this league would never want to admit it but there is a connection here. We have all been playing this game for years - some of us for nearly two decades. Whether we are a player who is just "here to have fun and avoid drama" or we are a player who has made one or two death threats over the years, we all continue to share an interest in this game. Why? Because we like it.
We genuinely like it.
