Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 13, 2026 · Unified Skirmish League

This is the privacy policy for the Unified Skirmish League (USL), a competitive community for the game Free Infantry. USL is operated by a single webmaster as a non-commercial hobby project. This policy explains what information we collect about you, how it’s used, and what control you have over it. We’ve written it in plain English — there’s no legalese hidden in here.

What we collect

When you register an account and use USL, we collect:

  • Account information: your chosen username, email address, and a hashed copy of your password (we never store passwords in plain text)
  • Profile information: anything you choose to add, like a profile picture, biography, themes, or customizations
  • Game data: your match results, kills/deaths/healing stats, win-loss records, ratings, fantasy team picks, dueling stats, community ratings you cast or receive, and other competitive league records
  • Forum content: threads you create, posts you make, and reactions you add
  • Technical data: your IP address (for security and ban enforcement), session cookies, and timestamps of when you logged in or were last active on the site

We do not collect payment information directly. If you choose to support USL through optional contributor donations, that transaction is handled by a separate payment processor and we receive only confirmation that the donation was made.

How we use your information

  • Running the league: tracking match results, calculating ratings, displaying standings and leaderboards, running fantasy and dueling features
  • Account management: letting you log in, sending email verification when you register, resetting your password if you forget it
  • Community features: showing your username and stats publicly on player profiles, squad rosters, and forum posts
  • Moderation and safety: enforcing community rules, investigating reports, applying bans when necessary
  • Occasional announcements: rarely — only for major league events, rule changes, or service notices. We do not send marketing email.

Who can see your information

Publicly visible: your username, profile picture, biography, squad assignment, game stats, ratings, forum posts, and anything else you’ve chosen to make visible on your profile. Anyone visiting USL can see these.

Visible to staff only: your email address, IP address, login history, and any private notes or moderation records. Staff access is limited to what’s necessary for their role (moderation, captaincy, analyst duties, etc.).

Visible only to the Webmaster: the password hash and the full database. The Webmaster is the only person with direct database access.

We do not sell your data to anyone. We do not run advertising. There is no third-party data broker relationship.

How long we keep it

While your account is active, we keep all of the above data. Match records, forum posts, and aggregate stats are retained as part of the league’s competitive history.

If you request account deletion (see your rights below), your personal information is removed and your identity is replaced with an anonymous pseudonym (deleted_user_<ID>). Match results, stats, and forum posts remain in the league archives under this pseudonym, since they involve other players’ records that don’t belong solely to you.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the information we hold about you — most of it is visible on your own profile and dashboard, but you can ask for a fuller breakdown if needed
  • Correct inaccurate information — usually you can edit this yourself, but contact us if something isn’t editable
  • Delete your account — we’ll anonymize it, removing your personal information and replacing your identity with a pseudonym across the site. Match records and aggregate stats stay under the pseudonym
  • Withdraw consent by deactivating or deleting your account at any time
  • Receive a written confirmation of any deletion we perform on your request

To exercise any of these rights, contact the Webmaster (see below). Requests are processed manually and usually within a few days. Account deletion is permanent and cannot be reversed.

Third parties

USL relies on a small number of third-party services to operate:

  • Hosting provider: our website is hosted with a commercial web hosting service. They have access to the server but not to the application’s data unless an emergency requires it
  • Cloudflare: we use Cloudflare in front of the site for security and performance. Cloudflare sees the IP addresses and request paths of visitors but does not have access to account data
  • Discord: the league has an associated Discord server. If you choose to join, Discord’s privacy policy applies to your interactions there. USL does not have any automatic integration that transmits your USL data to Discord beyond optional announcements

We don’t use any analytics platform that profiles individual users (no Google Analytics user tracking, no Facebook Pixel, etc.).

Cookies and sessions

USL uses a single essential cookie to keep you logged in (your PHP session). We do not use any third-party tracking cookies. Cloudflare may set its own cookies for security and performance purposes; their cookie policy is at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in a way that affects how your information is handled, we’ll update the date at the top and post a notice in the news section so you know to check. Continued use of USL after a change means you accept the updated terms; if you don’t agree, you can request account deletion.

Contact

For privacy questions, data requests, or anything covered by this policy: contact the Webmaster through Discord, or through any current staff member.
