With limited time until the season starts, it doesnt look like many people are gonna be playin. This is understandable as the player base went from High Schoolers and university students to adults with jobs and limited time.
However, from the time i've been here, I've noticed a population trend. When i first came back in season 9 or so, there was only 20-30 active players. After that, there seemed to be a positive trend in the population for whatever reason as we would reach almost 30 players daily and even capped at roughly 60-70 players for a championship just 2-3 seasons ago.
Im not here to point fingers, throw shade or blame. Remove the toxicity for just this thread at least and think about this game and what it meant to us. The way its going, I see this game being dead in 2-3 years.
The arrival of new zones contains promise, Mode's EOL (Whenever it comes out) contains some excitement. HS's new BH was well received and so was Oct's Cazzo, but these two zones are now barely populated.
I understand how AI zones are needed now due to a diminishing population, but they have a cap. People dont want to spend time attacking bots, it has no challenge and gets boring. People wants to play against other people and that is the basis of what Infantry truly was.
Seeing 2-3 ppl playing in an AI zone does nothing. It doesnt make ppl excited to play or encourage them to come on. However seeing 20 or so ppl in a PVP zone will bring on some sort of excitement and encouragement towards logging on. So take down cazzo and extermination for a little bit to see what happens.
Maybe this is the downfall of the offseason. Maybe people are getting born of infantry and are turned off to this game from the toxicity. Maybe theres not enough exposure to this game.
There's maybe 20-40 active players, another 10-30 ppl with the game downloaded and roughly 50 or so ppl who are aware of this game from email blasts, social media or whatever. The population is here but their just not interested enough.
ZMN alone brought on roughly 20 ppl everyday for about 2 weeks to play OVD. That was from him just spamming everyone he knew.
As I never played and from of SL or whatever during the SOE era, I dont know that many people or knew that many of u when i first came back. But all of you know someone who has played this game before and currently arent. Whats stopping u from reaching out to them and letting them know about this game.When there was over 100 people daily on here during SOE, some of u, many of u, must still be in contact, or able to reach 5-6 people who dont know bout FI. What stopping the Admin or Advisors from sending out emails as well and not letting that responsibility rest on jovan. That email list alone must contain 100 or so people.
No matter how much we wanna blame emp for ruining the league, he was tasked with an uphill battle and dedicated a decent amount of time to keep this game alive. Its a demanding task to be admin of this game on top of their normal lives and this is probably why changing aren't uncommon.
I'm aware of the challenges that this game faces regarding trademarks and what not and how this barrier prevents the game from being exposed. But this only prevents widespread advertising, whats stopping you from telling friends, co-workers, siblings or whatnot. While the learning curve and environment will send people away, some will stay for the challenge and will learn and improve.
Instead of fishing in the same pond and bringing the same people back, why not expend the pond and make this game more aware to the people around u.
At the end of the day, no matter how much toxicity or trolling there are, we are playing this game for some sort of reason and no matter how much we deny it, this game means something to us.
TLDR: Take down cazzo/extermination for a little while to encourage more of a PVP environment again. Game might die soon if we dont do something
