Hey everyone,

Unfortunately I won't be able to make any of the matches tonight. It would be really nice if anyone else could pick up the slack on recording so we have more material for the week. Romulocks will be around, but he's been busy as well and I believe will only be able to record one game, probably IV vs Tank. That leaves SA vs Legends (8pm), worms vs AF (9:30pm) and WH vs Cobra Kai (10pm) up for grabs.

In the SL Live Top 5 for this week (that's in the process of being uploaded as I type) I mention writing a complete guide to recording and encoding infantry video with optimal settings. Unfortunately I don't have time to do that tonight. I'll definitely make a full idiot-proof guide with screenshots covering every setting in the next couple days and post it here.

For now, I hope someone who can mostly figure it out themselves or who has done recordings before (ie: Tactical?) will be able to step up and cover at least one or two of the games.

Quick SL LIVE RECORDING GUIDE-

DOWNLOAD Open Broadcaster Software: https://obsproject.com/

I've found that this works best with inf and best of all it's free. You want OBS 0.651 Beta. Make sure you install the 64-bit version if you're running a 64-bit OS. Make sure you run as admin after installing. Some alternatives are Camtasia studio, Fraps, Xsplit, etc. Obviously those work too if you're comfortable with them.

DOWNLOAD x264 video codecs: http://sourceforge.net/projects/x264vfw/

** Configuring Open Broadcaster Software

Infantry doesn't support Window Capture, so you'll need to use full monitor capture. Right click the "Scenes" box > add scene > call it "Infantry". Select that scene then right click "Sources" and select add > Monitor Capture.

Make sure you highlight the source you just made and go into settings.

** OBS Settings:

- Encoding Settings: By FAR the best option is a GPU accelerated encoder. For anyone with a new-ish gen NVidia card, select "Nvidia NVENC". This encoder runs off a dedicated part of your video card to do all of the recording work. Meaning, you will have the same FPS in-game as you do without recording. New-ish ATI cards have an equivalent hardware accelerated encoder that I'm not familiar with, but should show up as an option for people with those cards. If you don't have an NVENC Encoding option I suggest playing around with encoders in some test recording to see which has better performance. Bitrate doesn't matter because it will be overridden by advanced settings, however if not your bitrate should be ~5000 kbps.

- Broadcast Settings: Select Mode > File Output Only. Choose your file path as desired.

- Video Settings: Set Custom Resolution- 1920x1080. Make sure FPS is set to 30.

- Audio Settings: Set your "Microphone/Auxiliary Audio Device" to "disable" if you're not planning on providing play by play.

- Hotkey Setttings: Set a push to talk hotkey if desired. You can also set hotkeys start/stop stream although I prefer to just tab out. It's safer.

- Advanced Settings: Check "Use Multithreaded Optimizations" -- for Video Settings, if you're using NVENC I strongly suggest setting "NVENC Preset" to "Lossless" and "Encoding Profile" to "high" and check "Use CFR". This means that you'll end up with a really big, HQ file (~5gb) that you will have to re-encode down to something more manageable later, which is really easy to do. I'll expand more on that when I make the full guide.

** Desktop Settings

Set your desktop resolution to 1920x1080, 16-bit colour. This matches up with infantry for best performance. It'll also let you tab in/out of game much faster for testing purposes and such.

** Infantry Settings

Again, 1920x1080 resolution. I suggest you don't record in mouse mode so you're not force centered. Increase the size of the nametags (font options) to large. Turn off any ?showphysics (oops) or ?showvision because those look weird and decrease performance. Set ?volume ~10.

** Rendering/Uploading

I'll put up info on optimal render settings for best quality/size and such tomorrow. Just hold onto your source file until then.

That's it. Just hit "record", tab into game and you're done. Do a few test recordings in infantry and check the quality to make sure everything is good. Like I said, I intend to make a full post this coming week with screenshots and such to make it really easy to setup.

Contact Romulocks in-game or by USL mail tonight if you want to help record stuff. He might be able to answer some of your questions as well. Thanks, good luck!

As far as week 2 videos go, I messed up some encoding settings and had to re-encode stuff which set us back a couple days. AF vs Tank from week 2 is up here: https://youtu.be/I_J5atyAE5Q . The SL Live Top 5 will be up here: http://youtu.be/ac7MESMYhMQ as soon as it finishes uploading/processing (in about 30 mins or so). Legends vs Warhawks is ready to go but I don't have the CPU power or connection speed to put it up today. It'll be online sometime tomorrow. I can't speak for Rom's videos but I know he's been really busy for the past little while.
