Seems like the SL Draft league was a fail? How about a 2v2 league in SL during the offseason. Small battles in mid are always funny/entertaining. We'd be able to get a decent size bracket..winner gets bragger rights..
Thought about this while rummaging the old websites. Seems like most of the skirmish leagues had some sort of small team league going on. Why not bring that dynamic back? I'd be more that happy to oversee these little scrimmages.

I was going to suggest a 4v4 or 5v5 mini event to test some things. But there seems to be a push to start the next season immediately following the Super Bowl...

Is it just completely out of the question to have something on a small scale run concurrently with the season or have a small overlap?
I'm not sure if players are into this idea.

How was SL draft league a fail? We had competitive games the whole season... I dominated the league and won my first SL ring. I proved I was the best sniper. SL draft league was a success.

From my experience, you'll always get players on board initially. Then they'll eventually forget about it and never use it again (USLDL).

I think USLDL should have seasons, with recognitions. Should also could be done in between USL seasons. :S. might not have the man power to run it though.

we can do 3v3 tournament over a weekend, think it would help keep a population going for a specific sunday.

I would convert USLDL into a 2v2/3v3 ladder but there's some details that would need to be ironed out and it would just be a waste of time when people stop using it after a couple weeks.
One of the big issues is the ratings. The only way I could see it working is if you only do overall team ratings instead of individual player ratings.

I would definitely appreciate that effort from you, but I honestly don't feel its necessary. I think it's something I could even just keep notes on ratios and win/loss.
I dont see a reason to have you do the work if we arent sure people would stick with it after a month. I personally think it would be real fun, but this community changes its mind a lot.

Trying to do individual ladder ratings in a team game is very tedious.
I do not recommend it lol

Yeah I'm just picturing the logistical nightmare it would be to code something like that. But at the same time it would be nice to see who on the team is doing what.

Champ that could be done by using a crude table. Wouldn't necessarily need individual ratings, at least not until this mini league has picked up steam.
Hell I could even throw up the chart on the archives if others expressed the same sentiment.

Yeah but it would just be really tedious stat entry which is kind of the opposite of what I'm trying to do. We can't even get refs to sit and watch a match right now (besides a select few) and press a couple commands. Never mind getting people to host these ladder matches and then enter everything after.

Reuse the jackpot system I wrote for Cazzo to determine individual player ratings. (The MVP %) Website wouldn't have to do a thing aside from accept data and display it.

I have rating formulas already. All I would have to do is use the same formula I use for USLDL and apply it to a team name instead of a player. It checks just the score of a best of 5 to give you a rating.
4.01 - A dueler's established rating is determined by the dueler's performance in official rated matches. The following formula is used to determine a dueler's established rating after a match, where New Rating is the dueler's established rating after the match, and Old Rating is the dueler's provisional or established rating before the match: New Rating = Old Rating + 32 ( Score - Expected Score )
4.02 - 32 is a constant that determines the maximum rating gain or loss after a match. This constant is traditionally refered to as "K-Factor" in the Elo rating system from which these rating formulae are derived.
4.03 - A dueler's "score" in a match is determined by how efficiently the dueler won or lost the match. For matches finished in 6 duels or less (win-loss-tie scores of 5-0-0, 5-0-1, or 5-1-0), the winner's score is 1, and the loser's score is 0. For matches finished in 7 duels or more, the winner's score is determined using the following formula: ( Duels Won + Duels Tied / 2 ) / ( Total Duels - 1.5 ); the loser's score is determined using the following formula: ( Duels Won + Duels Tied / 2 - 1.5 ) / ( Total Duels - 1.5 ). Score can not be greater than 1 or lesser than 0.
4.04 - A dueler's "expected score" in a match is determined by the interval between his and his opponent's ratings, using the following formula: Expected Score = 1 / ( 1 + 10 ^ ( ( Opponent's Rating - Dueler's Rating ) / 400 ) )
4.05 - To ensure that winners are always guaranteed a chance to gain points in spite of rating difference and to ensure that losers are always guaranteed a chance to lose points in spite of rating difference, expected score is limited to a maximum high of 0.96 and a maximum low of 0.04.
Just replace duelers/duels with teams/matches.
When it comes down to the actual players themselves the data would need to be applied to know who got the kills on the team and who died out, etc.. That's where the challenge would lie.
