I had seen interest in this before and I had a few people approach me recently about this. Similar to the current dueling ladder, I could implement a ladder for 2v2 or 3v3 with an elo system. The structure would be nearly identical, with each rated match being a best of 5. You would be given a rating based on how well you won or how badly you lost. Beating a team with a low elo rating wouldn't give you many points but beating a team that's higher than you would give you a good amount.
There could be 2 different paths:
1. An indefinite ladder system that people can jump in on any time they want to. There wouldn't be any set teams, just whoever you can round up. The elo system would just take the average rating of each player on the team to assess MMR and post match ratings. The only downside with this is you would need to find a ref/host whenever you want to do it.
2. A seasonal system where you would be able to create teams and dedicate a day each week to playing these matches. Instead of individual ratings to give an average for MMR, the team itself would have the rating. The downside to this is trying to find the right time so it does not interfere with USL. But the upside is if its a dedicated day we could have the refs/hosts on to do all of the matches.
Overall, I think it could be fun. Since you only need 2 or 3 players on a team you could create a lot of teams and have a pretty competitive bracket and lengthy season to give true established ratings. We could do awards and profile stats with all of this as well.
Some things that would need to be ironed out:
- Rules
- Map to be played on
- Class restrictions
-- (1 Marine, 1 Medic, 1 Support or 2 Marines 1 Medic or 2 Marines 1 Support or 3 Marines)
Let me know your thoughts and if you would be interested in something like this.
