USL Fundamentals

If a strategy isn’t working, change it. Adjust class compositions, leadership approaches, and play styles. Relying on the same tactics repeatedly and expecting different results is way too common in this game. Playing classes like Ranger, Sniper, Grenadier, or Ripper on bad maps is detrimental at times.

- Secure positional advantage before engaging.
Always establish superior angles before opening fire. Hesitation or retreating mid battle leaves you exposed and is punished the majority of the time. Getting the drop on the enemy through positioning is one of the largest advantages you can have.

- Learn when not to push.
If your team collapses repeatedly while forcing a choke, stop pushing it. Either gain more confidence and coordination first, or let the enemy come to you.

- Adapt to the map.
If you can’t win against a specific squad in open ground, shift the fight to rock cover or indoor environments where positioning matters more than raw aim.

- Avoid overextended flanks.
Long, slow flanks often leave your main group exposed. Stay close to your main team until you’re confident enough to time flanks effectively and safely.

- Don’t prioritize gimmicks over team survival.
Setting up overly elaborate ambushes, such as holding a LAW for extended periods just to secure a single kill often results in your team dying while you’re out of the fight. That trade is rarely worth it even if it's funny.

- Focus fire wins fights.
Effective target calling and immediate focus fire dramatically increase your kill rate. This is especially true when punishing overextended medics.

- Protect your medics.
Medics are the backbone of the team. If they’re consistently getting focused and forced to fall behind, that usually indicates positioning or discipline issues from the rest of the squad.

- Choose aggression deliberately.
Overextending when your team already holds a strong position is unnecessary and risky. Hold advantages until there’s a clear, coordinated opportunity to push.

- Exploit numerical advantages.
Always be aware of team counts via radar. If you’re engaging with a numbers advantage (5v4 or 5v3), apply pressure aggressively. Your other team is likely outnumbered elsewhere.

- Know when to fall back.
If a fight is lost, fall back quickly. Feeding additional kills due to slow falls can significantly impact the final outcome of the match.

- Track reloads. Both yours and theirs.
Recognizing when an enemy is reloading creates easy kill opportunities. Likewise, avoid swapping to a shotgun between AR reloads unless absolutely necessary, as it can extend your AR reload and leave you vulnerable at range.

- Disrupt medic positioning.
Use grenades to separate medics from their marines. Done correctly, this forces repositioning and exposes isolated targets for coordinated focus fire.

- Stay alert during stalemates.
In prolonged engagements, players may switch teams to swing numbers. If both sides remain aware, surprise pushes should never happen.
