X settings are mostly terrible and is highlighted when the player base is smaller. I was a huge X player as well, but I think you guys are forgetting the bad parts.
I have no intention of playing CTFPL again (inb4 community cheers), we had a chance at a season and we had a growing interest/population, but a combination of the season being suddenly cancelled and USL players checking out the zone and being ridiculed and flamed (just like what Darth said - I was actually one of the few trying to help these guys and promote the league) was the damnation of the zone. This is where I disagree with Champ/Dino, because we were generating population, and we just had to push through the rough week or two ahead of us instead of cancelling it all. Poor leadership, poor organization, too much ego, inability to handle criticism, and refusal to play with newer players.
When I fielded my mostly USL team for a mix, we played about 4-5 mixes. The other team did not change at all, and was composed of mostly CTFPL veterans (who were mostly concerned about finally being able to beat me. Sry guys, it wasn't BDS/Canucks you played!), while about 15ish people sat in spec and watched all the mixes without being put in. What the actual fuck? I mentioned this during and after, and even talked about it on ventrilo with a group of people who admitted it was a huge mistake and a wasted opportunity. That is the kind of shit that snuffed the league out of existence. Hope you enjoyed beating Big Bird and Kay Double-U.
Actual league play at this point is far, far off given the setbacks. Pub play, even with all these changes, is boring and lacks depth. OvD's? Probably the worst thing ever popularized in that zone - all organized play should be 10v10 or you should just go back and populate the public zone (although the public zone is literally awful to play atm).
The CTFPL community, myself included in that, has done this to themselves through isolation and an elitist attitude. When I returned to this game I recognized that the best thing to do was to integrate myself in the USL community so I can promote CTFPL from within. Show them the zone, help them with any questions/issues, and highlight the fun areas of organized play. The thing is, they aren't going to show up unless there is a league active, because all of these guys are competitive and want to compare e-wangs (except for Nos, biggest e-wang 2016).
Now I am left to trolling the zone when I bother to log into it (good effort, Dinobot. Steiner MG, Axidus.) even though honestly, I have nothing personal against the people I mess with.
I could go on, but I'm expecting to receive a ton of hate for this post, just like all my other posts. :D
Overwatch, anyone?
