As a skeptic of these Infantry re-done projects, I do truly wish you the best, and if the final product is well done I will play it. Also, as someone in the software development industry, I can appreciate the individual time spent and the hard work that must have gone into it.

I will say a few things;

1.) Do not cater to the older community too much. We are skeptical, nostalgic, and the only league that has stuck around long term is one originally considered as a beginner zone. Your primary focus, as it probably already is, would be to bring a new community into the game and cater towards those goals.

2.) CTF/CM were all good zones, but based on a lot of game trends I have personally seen, a zone designed with an EOL model would definitely have the most replay value. I personally did not play EOL a lot, due to my obsession with CTF and CTFPL, but the RPG elements are something a lot of gamers look for in their indie games. (Also, I'll be the first to admit that I have NEVER played CA. Is it like EOL?)

3.) Best of luck! You will need it.

Who decided which zones were beginner zones? Yankee? We all know he was a moron.
I don't get why you always bring that up, Flair. Still hanging onto the ctf vs usl argument?

Who wants to spend all day in menus/stores setting keys and buy macros? Noone wants to get that deep, they just want to respawn and kill.

To be fair when free inf first came out EOL was the most populated zone on a consistent basis and it didn't wait til 9pm est to get populated. EOL and CA are very similar flair however I think EOL is the better choice of the two.

that being said to build up a community or keep this one to build upon SK should be the first up followed by EOL, ctf etc.. not due to it being a "beginner zone" but due to the fact that again as I stated before it having the longevity from SOE to 10 seasons of FI where as again CTF has failed on numerous occasions to bring back a stable player pool or league start up.

Not trying to derail the original thread discussion - but I have never argued, "Ctf vs usl". Two very different zones, with very different skill barriers and ceilings. The beginner comment is mostly to trigger some very sensitive people, but if you think this community has stuck around due to the skill requirement or game depth of this zone/league, you're in denial. The community has stuck around because overall, despite the random duds, it is a good community which can be fun to be apart of. In comparison, the CTFPL community was very toxic, and not forgiving at all if someone was below the skill curve. Given the same communities, same dedication from staff, who knows!

Am I saying replicate CTFPL and to forget USL altogether? Not really. I am saying to draw a larger population, the focus should be on gameplay that has depth. A zone such as EOL (maybe not EXACTLY like it, but with similar elements) would, based on other popular games on the spectrum, bring more populace and activity. From there maybe other game modes could be explored, but ultimately I am not the game director or designer. Just giving my humble opinion as someone who is not biased.

PS- USL is a beginner zone.

Maybe you should cater to the "beginner" zones abit more. Infantry in general is not a newbie friendly game. Should any new player decide to get involved they will be like a lamb to slaughter from players that have played this game for 10+ years. If this game has the same sort of mechanics as Infantry, it'll be exactly the same. I know if I saw a game I wanted to tryout and I was just getting shit on left and right, with a toxic as fuck community like this, I definitely wouldn't want to play again. We are not a very welcoming group.

At least back in the day there were enough new players that you could still scrounge up a couple kills while getting shit on by veterans.

I applaud these efforts made by whoever you are.

No offense to Mizz/Armor and the others who have done a great job keeping the game alive. It need's new branding/launching in order to attract "newbie" players otherwise the game will be officially dead in the near future.

In order for it to be a succes, simplicity is key and put some serious thought into about how you can ease players into the game making it simple. In particular think about beginner zones and tutorials. Having a default setup to allow people who play the game for less than 5mins to not switch off thinking that was sh1t.

Priority zones should be

Titan rally

Need a good default control scheme. Might be more intuitive to have wasd for movement and mouse for aim for newbies.

Yeah I'm shifting my attention away from CTF for now onto a more basic team deathmatch style map/game settings. Should be relatively easy since kills are already recorded, easier than CTF overall actually. The question right now is which maps I should recreate, I'm learning towards the USL maps currently.

As for the controls, WASD is already in place for movement, and I've got some things in mind for not having to bind every single weapon/armor which can be super tedious. The controls, even as a developer, completely turn me off from the current free infantry. Actually with it being on unreal engine, you can also use a game pad which I've already coded out. Game works surprisingly well with a game pad.

Apollo EC is the most played for USL matches. KR is the oldest.

Soccer brawl would be legit

Beginner zone would be very helpful. I haven't played since SOE shut down and can't play now as i don't have a windows OS, but the rustiness is killing me. Joining into a pub match at 7 PM pst was killing me as i was left with like 7 kills and 45 deaths after a 30 minute match. I mostly stuck around for the nostalgia and the guys aren't too bad to talk to. But if i was a brand new newbie that had no clue what Infantry was, i would have definitely left after the first day. Infantry is a game thats easy to start but hella hard to get good at.

Babble, no I'm not making a dime off this. I'm only helping with the marketing and testing where I can. My main role along with a few other very experienced CTF players are assisting with the CTF beta testings when the time occurs.

As for flair, I haven't agreed with you much in the past. But amen for remembering that usl was wayyy back when originally designed as a beginner zone. It even stated it on the zone list description. You can't compare usl and PL. They are two different strategic styled leagues. That flair I also do agree.

One thing that really grinds my gears is the comment about CTF being a toxic league setting.... I'll keep my history as short as I can. When I started playing way back when. Yes I wasn't noticed because I was learning. It took me a while to feel out all the classes and observing league games to see what classes were most in need of skilled talent. I focused all my time on engineer. Because originally I wasn't noticed that drove me to my limits. I wanted to be a part of something so I tried so hard eventually I was noticed by amplifier and recruited to limitless. Unfortunately p2p occured before I was accepted.

The point I'm making is USL is exactly the same. If your not known skill wise your not getting on any top squads. The word isn't toxic your looking for the definition for CTF and Usl both alike is more along the lines of favorably competitive.

As for infinite - No I'm not in jail weirdo how would I be on these forums lol.

All negativities will be ignored. We expect skepticism, it's only fair to understand the optimistic opinions everyone has due to this being attempted in the past. But I can assure I will be assisting Justin in anyway I can to make this development successful in progress/growth for both leagues.

I do not like Usl but that's just because my buddies don't participate. It has nothing to do with the zone or tactics. I did suggest a push for Usl type zone to be implemented first. As our main goal is to promote a player base. It needs a foundation to start with. Later when CTF zone is added if anyone needs help understanding the game setup/goals/strategy and anything in general that's needed to grow as a player in CTF.

Myself and a few selected members of the Ctf Community will be available to assist you. This is CTF's and SK's chance for a new reputation. As everyone will be learning. Our egos will be left in this past. The only thing we will be bringing to this game is a good Community of new players and very old friends from a past time.

The only thing toxic is bashing a new player that's learning. Where is there any pride in that? Let's keep this the way infantry should have stayed in 1999

Some players have natural born talent. Herth/flair/Albert/Angelus/wolven/adept. Just to name a few became really good really quick. As for myself it took a good 4/5 seasons of League play and a hell of a lot of public played hours to master my class. Allot of it has to do with your controls also. Mousers tend to grow in skill faster from my experience watching a lot of them. 😉

I'm not even going to respond to that Judi. Obviously you didn't read the whole topic and all the replies. New player base means a new chance. For everyone.

I just spoke with the dev to see if we can put a CTF website in place with league options. Seeing the options here were removed. Seeing the version Infinite is still months from release. I stated to Justin that watching the member sign ups on the website could be inspirational to the sites members about the game releasing. Also it could be an early advertising method with development updates being posted frequently on the news header. We will see though, he's goin to get back to me about it.
