To be fair LoL and DOTA have led a trend into a very, very low-pop type of playstyle. Hearthstone is even lower, but the 5v5 format has also spread into FPSs as well over time as companies deluded themselves into thinking that nobody wants 16v16 or 32v32 matches (BF and PUG obviously buck this trend, but they are the exception.)
I'm in favour of having a centralized chat. I also think it would be good to have a schedule up front - let's say 2 weeks ahead? - that lets people know when the next meeting day is scheduled for so they can show up to play. This may or may not be a good approach to getting an odd CTF or GB match back into the mix too. Regardless, I wouldn't mind keeping the website updated to let people know when the next meeting is (can also send out email reminders etc if requested.)
