Is foxhole still around? From what I remember hearing both Running With Rifles and Foxhole have had a significant number drop of players, mostly due to the way the communities are goal-driven and that doesn't sit well with a new audience (think DotA-tier toxicity).

On that note, I don't think Latta has in mind to attract this community at all, even if it would be a good platform for him to get early onboarders from. Not to speak on his behalf, but my understanding of his attitude in the Discord chat is that he thinks the community here is mostly wrong and they would be better to shut up and let him do whatever he wants with his game. How he is able to have the contradiction of the community being wrong AND him trying to make the Infantry "people know and love" without the feedback of people who play it to this day is beyond me (and this doesn't even take into account the move from 2D to 3D, vertical aiming drama, all that fun stuff).

Fair enough, but that means he will have to start anew and hopefully attract enough of a following to outlive scenarios that Foxhole and RWR have encountered and turn enough of a profit to cover whatever return on investment on original development + ongoing server costs + ongoing develeopment.

I could enlist the help of programmers and artists, but that costs way too much. I wouldn't be surprised if, once I release something, that people end up buying asset packs from 3D asset stores to fill the levels with, well, stuff. I am not opposed to zone devs doing this at all (as long as you aren't ripping off other companies like Blizzard or whoever).

It's possible that somewhere down the line when I have enough to show that by word of mouth alone some people might be interested in working on this for free (take a look at projects like 0 A.D. for example), but I have a bit of way to go before I have enough to show to attract such an audience.

Interesting, I work for a software company with tons of programmers, could probably convince one to help.

Programmers aren't an issue, graphics are. Usually coders make a horrible graphic designer like me and lattasoft. Unlike latta, I know I suck at graphics which is why I don't do it. I'd say find graphic designers Jordan.

Those were contracted out to a studio, and it seems like shoddy work.

So I looked at Lattasoft's comment history after reading the thread and found this gem in a AMA to someone named VideoGameAttorney "I am in the process of re-creating a game from my childhood, infantry online. Actually, VideoGameAttorney is a well-liked member of reddit. He's helped a number of people out in legal situations specifically in the games industry pro bono.

On I'm sure he is otherwise he wouldn't have an AMA but from a legal perspective lattasoft has posted on his Facebook page months before his question that there were no legal hangups. For one this could be viewed as he knowingly engaged in a fraud pursuing a project for financial gain while having no right to the ip and basically admitting with his question that he is stealing the game mechanics lock stock and barrel.

If he avoids using the name and specific made-up stuff that was originally created specifically for Infantry, he should be fine to avoid legal trouble in all honesty. Capcom tried suing Data East over their game Fighter's History essentially being a complete ripoff of Street Fighter 2. The court ruled against Capcom and said essentially that the copied elements in the game were "scenes a faire," basically meaning what they copied is normal for that type of game. I would imagine Latta's game would end up falling under this.

Yes but did the developer claim to basically be stealing everything lol? That's where his screwup is. And whether daybreak would sue is up to him but he's killed a lot of funding channels with that question many of kickstarter have been taking down and people refunded their money due to issues like this i just read about a board game that got their funding yanked over issues much like this. But really I see the border wall and America being great again before this guy ever produces a tangible product this is more of a warning to anyone who would think of giving this guy any of your money.

To quote Latta from about 3yrs ago: "I can't be sued because I have a Manitoba LLC".

That right there should tell you that this guy will fail immediately.

He played a little in 2000? And he wants to remake it just from that?

I was hoping it was some longtime player with better community connections than that...

I saw someone claimed to be an Alpha Tester in that reddit thread too. I chuckled a bit.
