I know there are some of you that like to read this shit so here ya go. It'll soon be put in game as well.

In 2098 the Collective sent a full combat squad to the asteroid research station 29AB. This outpost was located off the far elliptical orbit of Saturn where it was cloaked by the planet’s gaseous mass. The station had fallen silent for reasons unknown and all attempts at restoring communication had failed, thus a rescue mission was planned.

Upon arrival they found no signs of life and that the station had been overturned. To their surprise they began to find puddles of blood, but no bodies accompanying them. They continued to search the labs and luckily two data cores were retrieved and some research was salvaged. Then and there the mission was deemed unsuccessful because the station had been active for many years so only finding two data cores was considered a failure. While navigating through the cold vast corridors of the station the marines began to hear sounds, scurrying steps with a slight echo. There was something in the ventilation system stalking them on their way back to the dropship.

Not taking any chances, the sergeant leading the unit advised the scouts to turn on their enhanced sensors to the maximum setting. This is usually frowned upon because it drains power cells too quickly. What appeared in their sight changed the course of the assignment for the worse. Their rescue mission had now become one of survival.

In a panic the scouts fired their plasma rifles into the nearest vent and the rest of the platoon followed suit. The command to move out double time was shouted and they began to run, but only the scouts knew exactly what they were running from. One marine stopped to give cover for the rear and that’s when it happened.

The sound of the titanium walls being shredded filled the air and then they filled the halls. Station 29AB was infested with aliens. They were fast and resembled giant bugs. Green saliva dripped from their scaled jowls as they screeched and their long claws twitched with an untamed energy. The solo marine could not outrun them so he was quickly devoured and nothing was left, but blood stained tactical gear. They started as a squad of 15 and ended as an injured group of six.

Data cores were not the only things they brought back to the dropship. The remaining marines scraped up some blood samples and even managed to bring aboard the corpse of an eight-legged bug.

Destroying 29AB was heavily favored, but the task could not be performed due to the concerns of asteroidal debris being created by the blast. The station was condemned and left to the insufferable deadness of space.

The mission to 29AB resulted in the construction of Saturnalia, a research facility built on Earth, which became fully operational in 2109. Studying the data cores it was found that the researchers on 29AB had begun calling the aliens the Skrall and using the specimens recovered at the station, scientists were able to clone them and start an underground colony beneath the facility.

The main focus of Saturnalia was studying the behavioral patterns of the Skrall. The Collective was most interested in finding out if they could in fact coexist, but it was quickly found out that the aggression possessed by these extraterrestrials prevented any such cohabitation.

Over time the upper echelon of the Collective grew frustrated with Saturnalia. The criticism was that the size of the artificial colony was too small to really track their behavior patterns. Against the pleas of all involved, the colony was doubled in size.

It wasn’t long before the Skrall outgrew the hive and began overwhelming the crew at Saturnalia. One night while dropping off some meals to infant Skrall, a feeder forgot to close the latch on a door to the hive, a fateful oversight. It wasn’t long before the lab was crawling with bugs. Unable to be contained, the Skrall eventually took over Saturnalia and slaughtered the station staff.

It was thought that all had been killed, but recently there have been some radio frequencies coming through to a near by dropship and there appears to be six scientists still alive in the facility. Due to the hubris of the Collective, there once again must be a rescue team dispatched to a station infested with bugs.

Save the scientists, regain control over Saturnalia, and for the Skrall? Extermination.
