We have some exciting news to share. We are moving forward with releasing Infantry on Steam and exposing our beloved game to a much larger audience. We are starting to distribute activation keys so that we can get the community to playtest Infantry on Steam and report any bugs and provide general feedback. We want to make sure it's all good so that when we publish it and get newcomers, the game is stable and provides a smooth and appealing experience.

will the current launcher still work to access the game or in the future everything will be accessible only via Steam?

My understanding is that the standalone launcher will still work outside of Steam and that adding the game to Steam is only to open the game to a wider audience. But Jovan would be the best person to ask on that to be sure.

The non-Steam launcher which is also our Account Server will continue working for the time being. I have no intent within the next year of sunsetting it or anything like that. Eventually, on some unknown timeline, we will be moving to the Steam account server so that we no longer have this, at which point I'll start to wind things down.

There is lots more work to be done before that happens, and more importantly, I am not in a rush for it because if it works for our playerbase, I would rather it keep working indefinitely. Steam does provide some niceties but, the nicest of the niceties so far is that our launcher works alongside their platform which means you guys can continue playing with zero interruption to your accounts.

And just to make it clear: currently both Steam and non-Steam versions connect to the same zones so we've, in reality, had people playing on the Steam client throughout March as we were configuring it, making sure it works well.
