USL Season 17: The Six Week War

Part I – KS10

KS10, a Collective compound that has been abandoned since the Second Titan War (214 CE), has become a hotspot of activity after a small group of nomad miners discover a bed of Helium-3. Although it can be found in other parts of the universe, the many small factions that surround KS10 are unable to venture to other planets to reach the rich supplies of Helium-3.

To the right buyer, Helium-3 is the most valuable resource in the solar system. This gas is used to make some of the most catastrophic bombs found on the black market. A sizable yield can make anyone wealthy beyond his or her dreams.

Due to potentially malfunctioning equipment, an explosion occurs, which effectively kills the miners and leaves the Helium-3 untouched. The sound echoes throughout the region and smoke signals the local mercenary groups to investigate.

The first two groups to arrive are Ad Infinitum and friend because they are the closest at the time of the explosion. Unbeknownst to each other, they’ve arrived at the same time, but on opposite ends of the compound.

Senatus is the captain of Ad Infinitum and he is nothing short of battle-torn. friend is led by Sov, a man who smells like smoke because he has walked through fire. Which of these two captains will gain control of KS10?

Both squads comb the area cautiously in search of what caused the explosion. Instinctively both groups end up in the southern region of the compound when movement is spotted. Rather than be civil, both groups decide to open fire and ask questions later.

Amidst the gunfire Sov instantly spots the source of the explosion. He also notices extraction tools a few feet away and he knows the smell radiating from the mountainside. Its as if God himself in the big Spec in the sky is personally hand delivering information to him.

Ad Infinitum is overwhelmed and decide to get out of the battle quickly and tend to their wounded. With maybe too much gusto they reenter the fight pushing deep south where the previous battle was held. In no time the friend faction is back on their tail. AI attempts to set up an ambush, but they fail and lose another fight.

Once again AI makes a run for the H-3, but friend is onto their sneaky ways by now. AI’s north team of four is stopped abruptly by the android Sol whose AI proves to be more advanced than AI themselves.

Determined to not let friend walk out with the Helium-3, AI open fire and break up their harvest. Knowing they are unable to go bullet for bullet, AI employ the tactic of poking in and out of the fight…or at least they attempt to. AI squad member Brillhart nearly makes it back to the Helium-3, but is pinched under Australia between Sov and some angry friends.

Many more fights take place and the same outcome follows. Falling short on supplies, AI is forced to gather their wounded and escape from enemy gunfire leaving friend to farm the Helium-3.

Friend didn’t have much time to mine. Their battle with Ad Infinitum took too much time and they had to search the compound for empty cylinders for the Helium-3. With only two 244 cubic feet tanks filled, friend has to abandon their post.

Purple Cobras slither onto the scene. This faction was started by ez, a man who once followed Sov religiously and it is rumored they may have been lovers.

The stale environment left the gunpowder in the air. Captain ez knew a battle had just taken place so he orders his men to scout the perimeter. They quickly find friend’s setup, but continue forward when some noise is heard.

Rival mercenary group Stiletto Nails, led by Jane, has arrived to take what belongs to others! SN is able to push south into the rocks and injure dark, but fail to capitalize. PC is able to hold and an overextended Jane is wounded, which forces SN to fall west to safety.
With no shortage of bloodlust, PC chases after SN where they then battle it out north of weed. After overstaying their welcome and over-committing a bit, PC decide it’s time to escape from this fight and find better footing.

Both groups trek throughout KS10 in an attempt to gain the upper hand on their opponent. A small skirmish takes place, but both groups escape to find better positioning. PC take this opportunity to inspect the mining site and feel the draft of a substance leaking from within the rock. With the aid of a hand-held atmosphere processor, Captain ez realizes the leak is the rich resource Helium-3; unfortunately PC have no tanks to carry it.

SN emerge from the rocks west of mesa and Champion opens up the fight almost instantly with two kills. Caught off guard, the remaining PC members, Apdo, Trisance and envy attempt to seek refuge in the south mid door, but are stopped in their tracks by a LAW from Jordan.

Many more fights break out in the southern region of the map. It seems both squads refuse to let the Helium-3 out of their sight, but are briefly forced to head north because short tremors shake rocks loose on the mesa. Fighting amongst the out of service vehicles and cave entrance, it becomes a game of who can last longer. There is a kink in the armor of PC and they begin to crumble. This is a trend Purple Cobras are unable to prevent and Stiletto Nails are able to force them out of KS10.

Stiletto Nails are long gone and the Helium-3 is tapped. The good news is that if sold, they will become very rich. The bad news, Helium-3 can be tracked using a commonly owned Nox scanner, which is used to find gases.

A new crew approaches; one composed of orphans and ostracized contract killers. They go by the name Whoa, and they aren’t very organized, but they’re young with an insatiable hunger for battle. They routinely gather scrapes on their short journeys, but on the way to KS10 they experience turmoil within their own ranks. Co-captain Octavian shows an interest in becoming the leader, which angers Captain DaddyOG. Thanks to the peacekeeper Beachkeeper they agree to shelve the topic until they return to their encampment.

They’re not alone…they’re being followed by an awkward bunch. A group that is socially awkward enough to not be completely pale, but still live in a cave. The Puzzle Mastah himself, Big Bird, leads Weaponized Autism and he doesn’t plan on leaving KS10 empty handed.

The moment Whoa saw WA they scattered and hid behind some rocks. This is no deterrent for WA as they rushed into drooling without fear. They clear Whoa out from south mesa and keep pushing forward. While under the mesa rock members of WA notice equipment on the ground. It’s evident to them there were some kind of miners here recently. Gunfire from the north pulls them back into battle.

While regrouping and attempting to escape KS10, the conflict within Whoa resurfaces. Co-Captain Octavian speaks out of turn and gives a command much to the dismay of the real captain DaddyOG. In a Lord of the Flies-esque move, DaddyOG lunges at Octavian, but he is able to flee to safety. His giggling can be heard as he rounds a corner and falls out of sight.

Although DaddyOG momentarily stops a mutiny, it doesn’t change the fact that his squad is taking fire the entire time he fought with Octavian. Looking around at his men he can see they are utterly spent. Whoa is cornered, in poor health and with little ammo.

Whoa throws in the towel. They throw their hands up and step out of the small bunker they were sequestered to.

Not completely unkind, BB delivers a spectral sermon then allows Whoa to leave unharmed, however, they must leave all their supplies behind.

Neither squad currently knows about the Helium-3, but word travels fast and although they want to go home, a detour might be in order.
