Lattasoft has ended development with Infantry or his interpretation of a rework which, in my opinion, was always on the cards. If anyone was expecting anything, well, expect nothing.

His game development and everything was bad. As I said, a foregone conclusion and many of my posts echoed this.

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to post a quick update to the development status of Infantry. I may have mentioned in passing that I was looking for a new job, which I have now found. The new job is quite a bit more challenging than my last one and has left me with little time to spare at home. Furthermore, since I've started Infantry development I've met a woman, bought a house, and have added to our family. At this point, I have close to 0 spare time at home.

I feel bad, because I will be letting some people down. I have put off posting this message because I've sat on the fence for the last while as to if I want to develop Infantry or not. The only way I was getting anything done on the project was sitting down immediately after work and working on it until bed time. As you can imagine, that was exhausting, and I couldn't keep that pace up. The good news is that the guys over at Free Infantry are working on their version of Infantry. They will be running into a lot of difficulties when it comes time for release, I've talked to Daybreak's lawyers and they refuse to let go of the rights of Infantry unless given some ridiculous offer to the sum of $250,000. Yet another reason why I can't justify continuing development - Daybreak's lawyers refused to give a clear answer as to whether they were ok with Infantry development, but the idea I got was that it was not ok.

Sorry guys, but it's time for me to throw in the towel. This has been a great learning experience and it's helped accelerate my career forward. A big thank you to all my fans, maybe at some point I’ll have time to give this another shot. But until I can get a clear answer from Daybreak and have more time in my life, it’s just not going to happen.

Did this guy ever even play infantry?

Lattasoft barely ever played Infantry.

Fun fact, he thought USL was a Free Infantry creation. That's how out of touch he was with this game.

We have to pay respects to each and every fellow who picks up the thankless, fruitless pursuit of remaking Infantry, whether they use a full blown engine like UE4 or hand-roll it themselves for the fun of it. So don't denigrate the lad, but recognize him for tossing his hat into the ring no matter the outcome. It's a labour of love.

I disagree with him on the Daybreak subject, for one simple reason: no serious project would call themselves Infantry. Certain things like using Titan as a setting are fine, but having a weapons manufacturer called Maklov in game would probably be a breach of copyright if anything. These things are small and quick to be addressed. The game itself cannot be copyrighted in any way - Infantry is a fairly basic top-down shooter. Nobody owns MOBA, FPS games, et cetera.

I had a good outro conversation with him; it was the first time we had spoken in the last 2 1/2 to 3 years since we decided to part ways and work on our own respective infantry remakes. One of us is still in the ring, but the community now has a couple of more people who are working on their projects.

1. Starqi's web-based browser infantry is probably the most successful thing so far. He's working diligently at it and it's coming along well. If you're not in the discord channel you're missing out on meteoric scale shitposting.

2. Mode (neolad) is also making his own Infantry-inspired game in UE4. Again, rapid development on this front thanks to great tooling. Mode has done a lot of zone work for Infantry, so he understands the mechanics and in and outs better than most people (certainly far better than Latta did).

Lastly, I continue in my pursuit to work on Infantry. I'm still calling it "Infantry Online 2" as a tentative title, but I will eventually have to change it to something else. No big deal. I'd like to get more work done on it before I make an official post on it, because I still think it's in a hobbling state as I find time here and there to work on it.

Justin (Latta) will continue to keep his Infantry Steam page in case he decides to pick up the torch again, so we won't be seeing anything coming from that unless we register "Free Infantry" or "Infantry Online" on Steam and put our launcher on there, or Steam decides to clean up games that haven't shown progress in the past year or whatnot.

In terms of him and I working together, his attitude hasn't changed much over the last three years. I'll keep the olive branch nearby in the unlikely case he comes around, but at the present it doesn't seem very likely.

His leaving is mostly a symbolic gesture in my mind, but I feel slightly less pensive about the future of this community and, whatever fan base he has accrued over the years may migrate over to us. So it's a clear path ahead for us as we continue to grow and regain players.
