Also, shoutout to Champ for putting in hard work to get this dueling ladder going...

Not sure if I mentioned it yet, but you should do "seasons" of dueling. This model requires you to participate in every duel starting from week 1 to be competitive. What happens when a good duelist misses week 1? Several hundred points of a gap that cannot be made up, just for starting late. Basically, only the players that larticipate from week 1 will have competitive scores.
Resetting the seasom every 6 weeks or so and giving a little award to the winner or something will be more representative of skill over time

There are seasons. That's the whole point of a "ladder". They reset. I just haven't determined how long each season is going to last. I guess I never really made that clear though.
On the left menu there is a section for the Current Season and I'm going to add one for overall, etc.. And the the tab on the left under the player list will have your weekly stats, season stats, and then lifetime stats. There will also be a database similar to the one for the matches that will show weekly, season and lifetime stats.

It'd probably be more interesting if you used something akin to an Elo rating system. Might require too much time and effort, though.

If someone could help come up with a good elo system for this type of structure then I'd be all for it.

5 points awarded per win before adjustment
Adjust 1 point for every 5 points of difference in season total.
Player A vs Player B:
Player A has 35 points so far this season
Player B has 25 points so far this season
Player A would receive 3 points for a win
Player B would receive 7 points for a win
Flip the model to see what Player A loses -
Player A would lose 7 points
Player B would lose 3 points
Just something I thought up quickly, seems like it works.

Maybe limit the adjustment to a maximum of 5 points, so a fresh player in week 5 doesn't come in and cost one of us 35 points or whatever.

what about keeping it a simple ladder with no tier to start off season 1?
_ You can challenge someone up to 5 ranks above you and have to accept X amount of challenge from someone 5 rank or less below your rank per week to keep your ranking.
_ If you don't accept any challenge or make any challenge, your rank drops by 1 per week
_ You cannot accept challenge from someone (of lower rank) who you just fought the week before.
On a simple ladder, you take what you kill so by challenging someone (max 5) higher ranked, you take their rank if you win and they drop to your former rank. Nothing complicated.
Some sort of duel registry (inb4 block chain technology) to keep track of which duel goes first and which challenge became invalid as a result of the battle is factored in. Basically it just check to see if the player being challenged is still within 5 ranks of the challenger or not.
A match history is kept so everyone can see who you have been dueling. Penalties can be given if abuse is spotted.

Mizzouze can probably implement a dueling system confirmation something like
?duelconfirm theplayersname so people don't cheat and it's recorded and saved in the stats file on site/server. Anyways what if a duel is a draw? Lol.

I don't think there can be a draw. It's first to 5. And if both people die, it's whoever died first which I'm sure can be registered in the server down to the millisecond.

If Mizz could get something like that going that would be cool but I still think doing it manually with a referee to observe is safer. Avoids any potential cheating, etc..
Speaking of which, if anyone wants to help out and become a USLDL Ref or just a league Ref in general that would be cool. USLDL Ref wouldn't get any in-game powers because you only need a *grant to do do a duel. You will just get access to the management page in the USLDL section that will allow you to sign up for duels and input scores/winners.

Nearly finished with this and I need some final input. Here's how I have scoring setup:
Unranked/Bronze WIN:
+1 against same
+3 against silver
+5 against gold
(nothing for losing)
Silver WIN:
+1 against bronze
+2 against same
+4 against gold
Silver LOSE:
-2 against Bronze
-1 against Silver
-1 against Gold (cant decide if silver should lose any points at all against gold)
Gold WIN:
+1 against Bronze
+2 against Silver
+4 against Gold
Gold LOSE:
-4 against Bronze
-2 against Silver
-1 against Gold
Does this look accurate enough? Should I separate the Unranked/Bronze so that if an unranked player comes in halfway who's actually a gold tier doesnt skew the points?

And then I was thinking of adding more points depending on the score.
So say a Bronze beats a Gold and the score is 5-0 they would get 5 additional points, 5-1 would get 4 additional points, and so on

I think it would be preferable to have the gain/loss be zero-sum for each match. So if one player gains 3 points, the other should always lose 3.
The current numbers would lead to inflation and reward grinding for points. No doubt that some people would enjoy that, but it'll mean any less active players will be left behind regardless of their ability.
The arbitrary duel limit per week should no longer be required if you make this change.

My formula was far better.
